Art Expo 2007
The Scottish Artists’ Network website was officially
launched on Tuesday 27th February at Art Expo 2007 - Scotland’s
first ever National Conference for Artists with Learning
Disabilities.
Despite the terrible weather on the day, 200 people from
as far afield as Sweden, Ireland, Lewis, Skye, and Shetland
flocked to the Arches in Glasgow for the inclusive, one-day
event.
Paula
Sage, (pictured) star of the film Afterlife
and BBC Scotland's River City welcomed the
delegates
to the conference. Paula, who has Downs
Syndrome said "I want to help people
like me to stand up for what they believe
and to
help people with a learning disability realise
they
have skills they can use."
The conference, which was jam-packed with
interactive presentations, film screenings,
and arts activities
was organised by Project Ability because
learning-disabled artists make a unique contribution
to Scotland’s rich culture, but often
their work goes unrecognised. >>more
